It's that time of the year again for Spring Send-Off! It's our annual University Centers event to bid farewell to the school year and "send" the year off before summer! Instead of one concert, this year we will be holding a WHOLE WEEK of events online! Join us in ending the school year with a week of fun! Zoom links will be posted before the events.
Thursday June 4th @7pm
Conversation moderated by Political Science Professor Tom Wong
Andrew Yang is an author and entrepreneur who, in 2011, founded Venture for America, a non-profit that created thousands of jobs in Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and other cities throughout the country. In his book The War on Normal People, he explains the mounting crisis of the automation of labor and makes the case for the Freedom Dividend, a Universal Basic Income of $1,000 a month for every American, along with hundreds of other policies to put Humanity First. Andrew was named a Presidential Ambassador of Entrepreneurship by the White House under the Obama administration and a Champion of Change for his work with Venture for America. His run for President in 2020 brought a bold vision for a trickle-up economy and the power of investing in American families.
Our staff and students at University Centers are heartbroken over the systemic racial injustices that have occurred throughout history and continue to occur in our country at this time. We stand in solidarity with the Black community on our campus, nationally and globally, who are leading the fight for equality and basic human rights. As we mourn for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others who have suffered unfairly, we urge you to stay informed by educating yourself and to take action in any way you can, as we do the same.
In recognition of the weight of this historical moment and out of respect to the call for a moment of collective reckoning through social struggle, throughout the country and across the globe, we have decided, in cooperation with the management teams of Yaeji & Goth Babe, to postpone tonight’s Spring Send-Off event to make space for more pressing discussions. We will make an announcement when we are able to reschedule these performances.
Instead of a performance, we’d like to share some resources with all of you. ASUCSD has compiled a set of resources into a document that has useful and informative links to learn more.
